So this is Zul’dar’s mount.
He found her when she was a wee lil’ baby, and she probably wouldn’t have survived in the wild, because of her hide color (a partial absence of pigment)…
And not long after that, he had to flee from Zandalar, so he took her with him and kinda ended up with two kids with him, both his son and she xD

After he (presumably) somehow found his way to the Shatterspear village and stayed there for some years, he raised her. She’s a large dinosaur, and not… quite a raptor I guess xD I see her as a sub-species of some kind, larger and heavier. She’s slower than most smaller raptors, not a sprinter, but more sturdy and enduring, able to run longer distances without getting tired.

And that saddle and stuff is what Zul’dar uses when he’s travelling. Maybe I’ll draw her battle armor later. And this is probably her - almost - final design

Hey, was this sketch created on a computer/wacom? I guess from the smooth lines digital? I ask because I don't normally see digital sketches looking this good. From what I've seen, most other peoples quick sketches have a lot of brokens lines where they lose pressure, and don't look nearly as good as there sketchbook. Obviously, you demonstrate your not, "most people"  and it's also your decisions that set you apart too. :D

Please keep, making my eyes water!! Make it rain!

These things were the main reason I always considered playing WoW. Friggin' awesome.

One thing I will say is that, for a raptor, this particular dino looks a bit more large-carnivore-ish than he does raptorish. Thick head, shortened limbs, and fairly heavy build aren't something I'd have expected to see on a raptor, or raptor-like creature. Don't get me wrong, it still looks awesome, your reptile anatomy looks amazing as always... It just doesn't seem quite like what I'd think.

And heck, maybe I'm wrong... I don't really know what these guys look like in-game, and I haven't seen a decent picture of Eoraptor/Utahraptor or the like... maybe they're heavier-looking than I'm envisioning. *shrug*

XD and if you paid attention to what was written in the artist's comments you'd realize that she isn't meant to be a raptor, not really. 'She’s a large dinosaur, and not… quite a raptor I guess xD I see her as a sub-species of some kind, larger and heavier. She’s slower than most smaller raptors, not a sprinter, but more sturdy and enduring, able to run longer distances without getting tired. '

This is a rather interesting dinosaur. Being a made up sub-species of raptor I feel compelled to try and mentally work out how it could have lived.

This is just for fun and to pass the time so don't take any of this seriously.

Going with your text below about it being an endurance runner, it helps get a decent view of how this creature could have lived. It has the thick jaws of larger carnivores, used for crunching through bone and muscle. Most raptors have narrow jaws for catching small darting animals are making slashing wounds to help bleed prey as they run it down. Considering it's great endurance, it seems extremely well built for tiring prey out and then overpowering them in a moment of weakness, very similar to how lions or wolves take down prey. I see lion tactics working extremely well for these dinosaurs, as lions largely just pile onto prey after running it down and hold it in place while they eat, more using their weight and numbers than claws and fangs. If this one were male I would have guessed that the horn is for display and sparing matches instead of defense or attack. It could be multipurpose of course and males just have more prominent horns or are just brighter colored, hard to tell since she is a mutation and not a good representation of a standard member of her species. So, going along this train of thought the horn is rather well placed to defend against larger predators. Thinking about it, the horn reminds me of the barbed fins on some species of catfish, even the catfish fry have them and it keeps them from being eaten n the early days of their lives to increase the chances they might grow into maturity. I can imagine that having a good sized horn at a young age would stick in the throats of would-be predators and give the pack more time to save the wounded pack-member or just give them time to flee and suffer no more losses. The horn would be rather poor for ramming, the neck is rather thin and the spine of the creature is not lined up in a horizontal battering ram, if they tried to put their heads down and bull-rush something they would break their necks. However I do understand that this is most likely a design choice and they can ram simply because you will them to and you are the creator of this world.

Moving on down, the arms are short, good sturdy claws, good for grabbing and holding on but little else. Sort of going the way of the T-rex since the head and jaws are so large. Speaking of which, if this were a real animal the head would make it top heavy and it would have trouble standing up, much less running at full speed. While it is a sturdy creature, the mix of raptor and larger more bulky theropod is a very tricky thing and ultimately it doesn't feel like it quite has the bulk for that head. Just file that as a minor critique. The only thing that honestly bothers me is the legs, the 'killing claw' to be exact. Raptors have a very lithe and flexible body for a reason, they need to be able to jump about and bring the claws to bare, something that very few other theropods can do. With the more bulky and stiffer design the killing claws become largely useless for their original goal. However, going back to my earlier thoughts about the lion style they might use to hunt with, the claws would be rather more useful as living railroad spikes to sort of stake down the prey like a tent, stabbing into them and pinning them down. This would be a very interesting method as lions are forced to use their front legs or mouths for the same task, often risking being clipped by a flailing hoof which could possibly kill the predator, but these raptors would be able to pin down prey while standing, able to jump or scoot out of the way in time.

Again, don't take this as anything other than a humble animal-nerd letting his imagination run away with him. I really do like the picture and it makes me very interested in this project you have in the works. The saddle in particular fascinates me as I have very rarely seen such a well thought out dinosaur saddle, most just involve a single strap that would slip off the dinosaur in question or chafe horrible, but this multi-strap design is utterly amazing and perfect for the steed.

Er...there I go again. Sorry, I have gone on far too long so I'll shut up now. I will however be looking forwards to learn more about this dinosaur and the world she lives in.

You do know this mount is based off of World of Warcraft's lore and it's raptors in-game. Not realistically scaled to the prehistoric dinosaurs IRL.
