Whyyy am I not flying? by Kerneinheit Whyyy am I not flying? by Kerneinheit
Another random dragon. Practice. At least now I'm a little more sure about me NOT messing up all the trades and requests.

The only problem is tnat I can't draw wings, when someone is flying... And I HATE it, and I'm trying to learn, but with no results as you can see. He's just HANGING in the air. For now, at least. But I'll learn! XDD

Maybe make the head a wee bit smaller, and the neck spines a little thinner as well. Some motion blur perhaps?
i dunno
I like it <3

stretch the wings out when gliding and down (like literally down, past legs and such) to gain altitude

If you want to draw him flying, start by making him glide. Have a side view of his body, then draw the wings so only you can see the arm and claws of the wing. Or, if you want to be a bit detailed, practice a fully open wing. Look at some images of bats in flight, too. They have the same structure, as do our arms and hands; the only differance is that his fingers are WAY longer than ours. Hope it helped.

Hrrrrm, I don't see wings as the problem here. He looks like he's in the middle of his upstroke. What's messing him up more is the limbs and tail.

Don't get me wrong, they look awesome. But for a natural flying pose, he'd either have to have them folded, or tucked back, and the tail should be out behind him unless he's doing some kind of fighting or turning maneuvers.

He's a lovely, lovely beastie. :)

Cool looking dragon;)

If you want it to look more like it's flying, you could try and draw the outmost "finger" coming towards the watcher, right now it's lined up against the body which makes it look like it's folding the wing^^

is the pose :)

That's the problem... I can do sketches, and they kinda look okay, but once I try to turn the sketch into something more, I find out that the wings are totally messed up... The perspective DX
And I have most problems with leather wings, birds are not so tough for me...

That's why you shouldn't try to turn the sketches into something more. :ohnoes: Making one detailed picture that has messed-up wings takes as long time as making 3-5 fine movement sketches. Though there is one sure way to learn to draw leather wings: observe them. :T

You might want to try looking around for pictures of birds in flight. That's what I use for my dragons, since the wing joints work pretty much the same way in birds and bats. It's like playing connect-the-dots, you just interpret every second or third feather as a finger and draw the webbing in-between. You'd still need to experiment a little with the shape of the membranes to figure out what works for each pose, but it is much easier than trying to work out the whole wing structure.

Lovely structure on the dragons head ;) I think the grain has a good feel here. I agree--wings are difficult, especially since you want them to look natural but not interfere with the rest of the drawing. I think you pull off your paintings with confidence.

Maybe when drawin someone/something flying You could draw their wings flat out and add air streaks behind them (lame and not good at explaining) showing speed, kind of like a plane....
